The current President of the IMO, Hazrat Shaykh Faizul Aqtab Siddiqi has travelled extensively in Bangladesh. The IMO’s work in Bangladesh has been especially focussed on poverty alleviation programmes. It has set up a charitable hospital in Bianibazar.
Additionally, the IMO is affiliated with several hundred scholars in Bangladesh, including a number of the country’s leading Ulema. There are also thousands of Mureeds of Hazrat Shaykh in Bangladesh who are strongly connected to the IMO philosophy.
The common Bengali people have greater sense of Islam than their counterparts in Pakistan. However, the Islamic identity being formed is in a vacuum and has no application in the middle to upper sections of society.
The IMO members will continue to campaign to support and underpin the heritage of deep Islamic practices of Bangladesh. They will also persevere in healing the wounds of foreign interference.
The Bangladeshi government is in political disarray despite a greater sense of maturity than others in the region. This chaos is a reflection of the torn identity in the educated sections of Bengali society. The IMO will campaign to support the positive Islamisation of the country and help to diminish the spread of radical thoughts and ideas.
