This branch was established in 1989 and has become one of the leading divisions of the international body of the IMO. The IMO of Canada established the celebration of the annual International Milad un Nabi Conference which has attracted thousands of people to listen to the greatness of the Holy Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him.
The members of IMO in Canada number many thousands. They are not only linked to the IMO Center in Toronto but virtually all the major Mosques and Islamic Centers in Canada. The IMO membership has truly generated a new Muslim identity in that the migrating communities from the Asian subcontinent and South America have integrated and infused with each other to the extent that they have been able to shed their cumbersome cultural baggage.
The IMO in Canada has been largely established and supervised by the current President General Hazrat Faizul Aqtab Siddiqi. He has worked tirelessly throughout Canada to revive a positive Muslim identity and practical approach to tackling issues generally. The continued love of thousands of Canadian Mureeds for Hazrat Saheb over the last two decades is testimony to the depth with which these members have understood their responsibility to the wider society, and Hazrat Saheb’s teachings.
The IMO have been able to purchase one of the biggest Islamic Centers in North America for the purposes of serving the local Muslim community. There are regular conferences and events held, to not only serve the Muslim community but to become a point of reference for all Canadian citizens.
Canada is the conscience of the American continent. Its vastness and material prosperity has not come at any cost to others. Canadians today relish pluralism and multi dimensional approach to bringing civic harmony to the heart of society. Canada has the opportunity to stage leadership in the American continent demonstrating that decisions of conscience are prudent long term rather than short term bursts of power.
The Muslims in Canada have the opportunity to enrich the conscience of all members of society. The rich traditions of Islamic values, morality and ethics can be catalyst to even greater social betterment.
