The IMO in India enjoys a prolific support base of thousands of Mureeds of the Naqshbandi Hijazi Sufi order. There is also a network of over five thousand scholars associated with the work of the IMO in India. This extensive base has allowed the IMO here to work diligently in creating a more harmonious and tolerant India.
The IMO is associated with seven thousand Indian mosques. Additionally, it has extended its support to many more mosques and Islamic Centres. The Indian IMO has invested a great deal in the progress of Indian educational establishments through its support of some of the leading educational institutions in the country. These include establishments in Kerala, Delhi, Ahmedabad and Lakhnow.
The peaceful campaign by Muslims against the destruction of the Babri Mosque was spearheaded by the IMO. It has also campaigned for the preservation of a number of other Muslim Holy Shrines in India.
One of the most noble campaigns of the IMO in India is its work towards eradicating the caste system. It has acted consistently in protecting the Dalits and for people to realise their humanity. Additionally, the IMO is committed to creating civic harmony between Muslims, Sikhs and Hindus.
Going forward, the IMO will continue to build and support mosques and Islamic Centres where necessary as well as supporting ones which already exist. It will also continue its endeavours to preserve and enrich the wealth of Sufi heritage in India.
