Nigeria...

It was 2000 when IMO was initially established in Nigeria.  The President General of IMO, Hazrat Shaykh Faizul Aqtab Siddiqi established links with the Khalifa and Sultan of Sokato – Al Haji Maccido.  Today, the link is maintained by the son of the Khalifa - Shaykh ul Aliyu.

The Shaykh ul Aliyu represents the Muslim populous of Sokato which amounts to approximately five million.  In addition, he is associated with all the Islamic institutions, mosques and centres of learning in Sokato.  This affiliation has therefore afforded the IMO in Nigeria with a substantive remit of activity.

This affiliation has been a conduit for spiritual guidance for the Muslims of Sokato.  In addition, the IMO continues to advise the local community leadership on pertinent issues and shares its extensive international experiences.  In particular, the IMO has assisted the construction of the Maccido College of Islamic learning.  This has become a centre of excellence for Islamic learning in the region.  The IMO has also lent its expertise in the implementation on many of the existing social development programmes in Sokato.

Although the activities of the IMO in Nigeria are currently focused in Sokato in the main, there are also a number of social programmes in the process of implementation in Abuja.

The way forward ...

The Nigerian people are diverse in their traditions and belief systems.  Their rich cultural heritage includes Khilafat and monarchy.  The IMO will continue to instil confidence in various sections of people to continue to accept and tolerate each other.

The IMO members will maintain its drive to build foundations and education centres to ensure all Nigerians receive the basic right of education.

The Nigerian government has always been branded as corrupt and there is no end to leaders to continue to excavate huge wealth from the local people.  The IMO will campaign to engage with these individuals to they can be protagonists for creating wealth for Nigeria rather than usurping its resources.

The IMO will continue to promote sincere leadership and offer its endorsement to those that desire greater distribution of wealth within the Nigerian citizenship.
