The IMO branch in Trinidad and Tobago was established in 1987. The founding President of IMO, Hazrat Pir Abdul Wahab Siddiqi visited it for the purposes of holding public lectures. His inspirational speeches attracted tens of thousands of people and even the national stadium where they took place could not accommodate the full audience. The current President general of the IMO, Hazrat Pir Faizul Aqtab Siddiqi enjoys an equally prolific following in Trinidad.
The main affiliate organisation of the IMO in Trinidad is the Anjuman Sunnatul Jamaat Association (ASJA). This is the leading Muslim NGO in Trinidad and has been working hand in hand with the government for many years in promoting the interests of Muslims. The IMO has assisted ASJA in the establishment of many schools and mosques across Trinidad. Currently, the IMO is affiliated with many hundred mosques through ASJA. The ASJA also runs a number of highly successful schools from the elementary through to college level. These institutions are committed to delivering the highest quality of education to the young generation.
The IMO has facilitated the graduation of numerous Trinidadian Ulema from the Jamia Islamia. They have subsequently been able to transfer their world class religious and secular learning to the local Muslim community who has greatly benefited from their input.
The Trinidadian people are very loving and relaxed. However, because Trinidad is still torn between its Indian and indigenous identity, the two communities remain polarised and isolated. The IMO members will campaign to demonstrate to the local Indian community their responsibility of being of utility and service to the indigenous people. The IMO will campaign to make the Indian people the true brothers of the indigenous people.
The Trinidadian government has been a true model of political maturity bar a few lapses in its history since independence. The IMO will campaign to continue to foster that positive environment in government so that the Trinidadian example can be followed in other countries.
