The year 2000 saw the establishment of the IMO in Zanzibar. A number of mosques have been constructed here with the assistance of the IMO. The IMO in Zanzibar has also been working towards promoting social development through a number of education and poverty alleviation projects. The majority of these are specifically targeted towards the indigenous community in Zanzibar.
Hazrat Faizul Aqtab Siddi Saheb and Hazrat Noorul Aqtabl Siddiqi Saheb have travelled throughout Zanzibar. Their speeches have inspired many thousands to re-examine their faith and reaffirm their connection with it. They have also been a revered source of spiritual guidance for many. The majority of their following is from the migrating community in Zanzibar who seek spiritual guidance and advice on religious matters from the Shaykhs. Their spiritual guidance is also sought for by the Sikh and Hindu communities in Zanzibar.
The love of the local population has culminated in several hundred of them entering into the Naqshbandi Hijazi Sufi order as Mureeds. These Mureeds are now committed helpers and supporters of the IMO in Zanzibar.
The prosperity enjoyed by Zanzibar can be attributed to the true spirit of racial tolerance and multiculturalism. It has demonstrated that diversity can equate to harmony and strength rather than conflict. The IMO in Zanzibar is committed to strengthening the social fabric. It will work diligently to encourage people to continue to build strong affinities with each other and avoid ethnic division.
The progress of Zanzibar’s people has been the result of a dedicated government which has consistently worked hard to ensure their advancement. The IMO will continue to work hand in hand with the government to create an exemplary nation.
